12-15-17

After receiving edits from Mr. Correa on my Thesis Term Paper, I incorporated them, fixed my formatting errors, and compiled a conclusion. After sending my paper to Mr. Campbell, getting his edits, and applying them, I will submit my paper this evening.

12-13-17

Today in thesis I finalized my first draft of my thesis term paper, continuing to use edits that my mentor gave me as well as my personal ones to compile the last two pages of my assignment. This evening I will send it to him and get his feedback.

12-11-17

Today in thesis, I began the period by updating my college information on naviance and then I set-up my online student portal for Rice University. After doing that, I continued work on my thesis term paper based on the outline I composed with my mentor last week. Even though I didn't complete a full draft, I sent what I had to him to review and give feedback on.

12-7-17

Today in thesis, I began by doing research online and in the textbooks that my mentor gave me last class period, using them to find several new topics to include on my term paper for this semester. After learning about them, I created a new outline that included them, sent it to him, and got his feedback on it.

12-5-17

Today in thesis, I was finally able to meet my mentor in person. Since Jostens was here we had to sit in front of the TAG office but nevertheless it was a productive meeting as he brought four books for me to read that give significant, detailed information about anatomy, physiology, and skeletal muscles. In addition, we talked about goals for my project, thesis term paper drafts, future meetings, and just general information about each other. After our meeting, I spent the remainder of the period looking over the books he gave me to read.

12-1-17

Finally, December 1 is upon us. Fortunately, I am in good shape and won't be doing last minute work this evening. Today in thesis, after reading the google classroom posts that Mr. Correa put up, I continued work on my thesis term paper. Based on notes that I brainstormed with previously, I created an outline that will help me write a rough draft next class in thesis.

11-29-17

Today was the last college day in thesis :((((( Today I called the Duke admissions office, waiting on hold for at least 10 minutes, and then I talked an IT representative who helped me through difficulties I was having logging into my Duke portal. After that, I received an email from Vanderbilt, setting up my account flawlessly and without issue, much more straightforward than with Duke. Finally, I wrote a draft of my final essay for my Rice application, hopefully this will be my final college essay I have to write :)

11-27-17

With the December 1 deadline closely approaching, I began thesis by editing my six Duke, Vanderbilt, and Rice supplements. After proofreading them myself, I printed a copy of them for Mr. Correa to review. After doing that, I wrote my PTA scholarship essay, which I had prepared an outline for a few class periods prior. Additionally, I revised my scholarship application essays for both the UT 40 Acres Program and the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship. Finally, after talking with Ms. Marberry about my UCLA admissions portal, she requested that I call their admissions office and inquire about my login information and if there was anything I needed to be concerned about. Unfortunately, this call took about ten minutes as I had to wait for a representative to talk to. Oh well, at least I am in good shape.

11-16-17

Today in thesis, after getting instruction from Mr. Correa, I began to work on my Thesis Term Paper. Compiling information from my annotated bibliography and reflecting on what I have learned, I composed an outline for it. Careful not to make it a research paper and focusing primarily on specifically what I have learned has and will continue to be the most difficult part of my work. In addition to working on my paper, I also re-formatted my annotated bibliography so Mr. Campbell could access it and sent it to him.

11-14-17

December 1 is getting closer and closer; as soon as one college deadline passes, the next one is right around the corner. In hopes of reducing my workload over Thanksgiving break, I got as much done on my supplements as possible. During class I was able to finalize my eight supplements for the University of California and the University of Southern California, reading over each and making small edits in virtually all of them. Additionally, I composed three additional supplements for Texas A&M (two for their Honors Program and one for the housing application). Finally, in order to finish applications to schools (it's not just about the essays unfortunately) I went to Common Application and checked over my answers to the personal/general information responses for USC.

11-10-17

Today in thesis, I focused primarily on scholarships. After handing one of my supplements to Mr. Correa and editing my four supplements for University of California, I began researching various scholarships. There were two in particular that I found - Moody Mega Math Challenge and the Texas PTA Scholarship. I drafted an outline for my PTA Scholarship essay and after that I went and talked to Dr. J about the Moody Mega Math Challenge, looking at previous year's winners and brainstorming on possible groups.

11-8-17

Finally. I am finished with my annotated bibliography and it is turned in. After finishing up my last 8 or so entries with annotations today in thesis, I can officially say I am done with that assignment. Now, I have nothing to worry about finishing this evening :) (except for all that government work Ms. Malone assigned).

11-6-17

After completing the time-consuming task of taking my senior photos (to the dismay of many of my classmates who took over 10 minutes, mine took a total of about thirty seconds), I continued working on my annotated bibliography. Over the course of the period, I was able to successfully finish seven more entries, leaving me with only seven more to complete next period before the bibliography's deadline on Thursday morning.

11-2-17

Now that November 1 has come and gone, I have more time for my thesis project. Today, I found four more sources for my project that I think will be helpful. Additionally, I wrote bibliography entries for these sources, finalizing my working bibliography (for now). After that, I began working on my annotated bibliography entries, finishing four of them. Thank goodness Mr. Correa extended the bibliography deadline; now I'm not stressed at all.

10-31-17

Unlike many of my peers, I can officially say I was done with all of my November 1st college work before I got to school today, as a result, I had plenty of time to work on my thesis project, specifically my annotated and working bibliographies that are due this Friday. Even though I didn't have any pressing college deadlines, I spent the first 30 minutes of class entering in general information (name, address, major preference, etc) into the University of California and my other Common Application schools. After that, I continued compiling sources for my thesis project, finding four new ones and watching an interesting 10-minute video about muscles functionality at an organismal level. By the end of class I was able to successfully finish my working bibliography, complete with 17 sources and their appropriate citations. Now all I have to do is finish my 100-200 word responses for each by Friday.

10-27-17

Earlier this week, after emailing with a potential mentor, Jeremiah Campbell, the two of us decided to get in touch over phone, which happened to overlap with a college day in thesis. For the first half of class today, I struggled to find service to sustain a phone call but eventually succeeded and Mr. Campbell and I discussed my thesis plans, future communication plans, and where we will meet. After our phone call, I updated Mr. Correa on my mentor communication and began reviewing the remainder of my UT supplements in preparation to send them off this weekend. I proofread all 7 or so of them and am prepared to print them off and finalize them tomorrow. College here we come :)

10-25-17

It seems like yesterday that Mr. Correa was saying "November 1 is a month away".... now its six days away. Crazy. I've applied to three schools and today I finished my application for TCU, which I will be sending off tonight. In addition, I talked with Mr. Gerardo about several Common App questions that I had, which he cleared up for me. Finally, I drafted three more supplements for UT Honors and UT Scholarships. UT is really killing me. At least it was a productive day in thesis :)

10-23-17

Fortunately or unfortunately, November 1 is getting close. Just this past weekend I realized that applying to UT isn't everything I have to do... I also have to apply for scholarships and honors programs. As a result, I have 7 more supplements to write, 3 of which I drafted today in thesis. Additionally, Mr. Correa read my TCU supplements, to which I made his suggestions and now I am ready to submit that application this evening.

Wednesday, October 18, 2017

10-18-17

Today in thesis I updated my college resume as well as talked to Gerardo about sending teacher recommendation letters to schools. After finishing that, I worked on my two supplements for TCU and brainstormed on what to write for my four University of California supplements. Finally, I created an account and submitted my initial application for the National Eagle Scout Association scholarships on their website.

Monday, October 16, 2017

10-16-17

Today in thesis I looked over the annotated bibliography assignments in classroom and began working on it. I finished my working bibliography with the sources I already had, but I still need to find some more sources to get to the 15 minimum. Also, next time I will begin writing my annotations for each bibliography entry.

Tuesday, October 10, 2017

10-10-17

Today in thesis I talked to Ms. Marberry about questions I had on my Michigan State application and University of Texas at Austin application. I ultimately called both schools' admissions offices because neither Ms. Marberry or I knew the answers. I finished my Michigan State application and will submit it when I get home tonight. I also worked on my UT Austin application, finishing my extracurricular activity, awards, honors, and community service sections.

Monday, October 2, 2017

10-2-17

Today thesis was a college day. As a result, I worked primarily on my essays and supplements for my October 15th deadlines (UT, A&M, and Michigan State). I drafted a completely new supplement as well as edited the four other ones I had already written. Additionally, I edited my two essays based on suggestions Mr. Templet gave me today at lunch. Finally, I completed the personal information sections on the Apply Texas application, something that took way more time than I thought it would.

9-28-17

Today in thesis I organized my list of supplemental writing assignment questions for colleges, drafted and edited one of them for Michigan State, and left class early for my band Pre-UIL competition.

Tuesday, September 26, 2017

9-26-17

Today in thesis I shopped for 3-foot, anatomical skeletons on eBay (finding one that costs $65), compiled the sources that I have used so far into a working bibliography, and researched how much it would cost to make an ecorche out of clay or play-doh. After doing my research, I concluded that it wouldn't be overly expensive, but that it would be extremely heavy to use either of those materials, I'm going to experiment with some recycled material such as cardboard and newspapers to see if I can use them for my model.

Friday, September 22, 2017

9-22-17

Today in thesis I drafted a supplement for my University of Texas at Austin application. In addition to writing this, I edited a supplement that I had previously finished and created a spreadsheet that organized my college choices, application due dates, and the way that I am applying to them. Finally, I began working on my Texas A&M application on the Apply Texas website.

Thursday, September 14, 2017

9-14-17

Today in thesis I asked Mr. Correa some questions regarding the presentations, drafted and finalized my presentation visual aid (PowerPoint), finished my speech for my presentation next Monday, and emailed Ms. Marberry with some questions regarding Naviance and recommendation letters.

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

9-12-17

Today in thesis I worked on my Apply Texas Essay revisions, created a UC Application account, semi-finalized my college list (this took a long time), and added information to my common application profile. Finally, I sent Mr. Buchanan an email with my resume and senior survey for his use in writing me a recommendation letter.

Friday, September 8, 2017

9-8-17

Today in thesis I worked hard on determining my thesis topic. After talking to Mr. Correa some, I have narrowed my topic down from general anatomy and physiology to how muscles work and respond to resistance training. As of right now, I have the idea of using my own personal progress from resistance training as an example as well as potentially creating a life-sized or model-sized ecorche of my body. In addition to my research, I also updated my mentor request form and resubmitted it.

Wednesday, September 6, 2017

9-6-17

Today in thesis I worked on my senior survey and college resume, updating them with information from this summer so I can give them to my recommendation letter writers. Additionally, I worked on my supplements for TCU and had Mr. Correa edit my Common Application Essay.

Friday, September 1, 2017

9/1/17

Today in thesis I worked on narrowing down my topic. I am currently considering a topic in the physical fitness/nutrition realm and as a result, I looked at various sites including bodybuilding.com and ironman.com for inspiration. In addition, I read an article regarding college essay mistakes (as Mr. Correa advised us to do) as well as checked to make sure my Naviance log-in was still functional.

August 30

I created my ApplyTexas and Common Application accounts today and researched the specific admission requirements for UT Austin, TCU, Texas A&M, and Rice University.
